Betsy DeVos Praises Indiana For Approving Of A Voucher Program That Will Benefit Students In The State

Betsy DeVos is the secretary of education for the United States and a philanthropist who works very hard to improve the lives of students in her country. Wisconsin was the first state in the U.S. to approve of a private-school voucher program, just 25 years ago, and there are now more states following suit every day. More than 200,000 students are able to attend a school of their family’s choice today thanks to private-choice programs. Every year, this number is growing, and states like Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and Arizona are starting up new programs to aid students.

Betsy DeVos recently commented during an interview about how good a new voucher program in India is working out for students. The program helped 10,000 children to be able to enroll in a quality school in just its second year of existence, and it is expected to help even more students in the future. DeVos believes that as more people in the USA realize public schools are failing their children, they will demand change. While vouchers and private-choice programs once seemed like radical measures, they are now beginning to look more rational to citizens in the country who are growing tired of having to send their children to public schools that are letting them down.

Betsy DeVos has been working within the educational choice movement for a good part of her life. Instead of joining the movement overnight, it took quite a few years for her to see the benefits of what the movement was proposing. One of the earlier incidents that encouraged her to help students took place at Potter’s House Christian School. She paid a visit to the school with her husband, Dick DeVos, when they had kids going to school still. She was very impressed with the offerings at the school as well as the positive learning environment there. During her visit, she learned that many of the parents who sent their kids to the school were struggling make ends meet in order to do so. This really bothered her, and she began to pay the tuition costs of some of the students before moving on to work on the problem on a more national level.

Betsy DeVos is a member of the board with Mars Hill Bible Church, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, and Kids Hope USA. She also serves as the chairman of the Windquest Group and the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation. DeVos recently visited an all-girls charter school in Washington D.C. with Queen Rania of Jordan and first lady Melania Trump. DeVos praised the school for helping to empower parents in the community, and she continued her tour of schools in Florida where she made a surprise public appearance with the rapper Pitbull.
