The unjust pardon of Joe Arpaio
People have been scratching their heads over president Trump and his decision to pardon Joe Arpaio. Arpaio well known for his wrongful imprisonment of, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey.
10 years ago both Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were imprisoned under the charges of disclosing information about a grand jury investigation. Arpaio was well known for using unusual aggressive tactics while heading to Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. Since he has been in office there have been multiple cases that have been thrown out because of unregulated practices, including detaining immigrants due to suspicion. Even after Mr Paul was charged for violating rights from minority groups, he continued to racially profile immigrants based on looks and not on evidence. is abuse of authority caught the attention of many people including reporters.
The Phoenix New Times headed by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, began to publish articles against Arpaio to the public. This of course infuriated Mr. Arpaio and led him to wrongly Investigate the two men ultimately charging them with no evidence.
Lacey and Larkin were released before one month of time spent in prison and the men filed a suit against Arpaio, exposing him for his corruption. The men won a staggering $3.4 million lawsuit.
Many have criticized Trump for pardoning Joe Arpaio, only because he was an early endorser of candidate Trump during his election run. Even if that may be true many also thank that Trump is just appealing to his National base of people who are nationalists.
Profit organizations like the Frontera Fund, headed by Lacey and Larkin, have been fighting back against President Trump’s decision to pardon former Sheriff Arpaio by educating the public. Hopefully with the help of these organizations along with the huge contribution by Lacey and Larkin, the people of Arizona could educate themselves on the matter. Ignorance place a huge role on people follow nationalistic and racist viewpoints. Education has to be the key to break these barriers and the Frontera Fund great start.
Larkin who grew up in Arizona, was educated by good parents who taught him the good values of life. He realized at an early age that helping others who are less fortunate is a service to the community.
