Academy of Art University, a Leader in Education

For over 20 years, the Academy of Art University has held an annual event to showcase it’s students in fashion design. On September 9, 2017, the school held its 21st runway show where ten recent BFA and MFA graduates showed five womenswear and two menswear, plus two collaborations.

Years of classwork, internship, and many hours of design and labor went into 15 minutes on the runway. This is truly a career, not a job, for these fashion artists. Before their peers and professionals alike, they presented their views on the future of fashion. Fabrics, emotions, function, and form came together in vastly different articles of clothing. Inspiration was derived from ancestry, materials, individual experiences, and techniques. These are the designers to remember in the future.

Hailun Zhou, MFA Fashion Design. Eden Slezin, MFA Fashion Design. Dina Marie Lam, MFA Fashion Design. Rheanna Oliver-Palanca, MFA Fashion Design. All four were chosen for the CFDA (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance) Fashion Future Graduate Showcase in 2017.

Carlos Rodriguez, BFA Fashion Design. Saya Shen, MFA Fashion Design. Joanna Jadallah, MFA Menswear Design. Cana Klebanoff, BFA Knitwear Design. Ryan Yu, MFA Fashion Design. Jelly Shan, MFA Fashion Design.

Each designer showed their creativity through combinations of fabrics, photography, ancestry, and emotions. It was gratifying to see the culmination of their years of study and internship during New York Fashion Week.

The Academy of Art University was created by artists for artists. It began operation in 1929 and is located in the heart of San Francisco, California.
